1. Croatia – Dubrovnik, Split & Plitvice Lakes National Park

Croatia hands down needs to be on your summer bucket list, it’s and absolute hidden gem.

To my surprise, every place we visited in Croatia was beautiful.

It has the feeling of the Mediterranean with a medieval vibe minus the crowds.

Start in Dubrovnik, a stunning walled city that looks straight out of a medieval fantasy (and yes, it was a filming location for Game of Thrones).

Walk along the ancient city walls, kayak around the Adriatic coast, and explore the hidden beaches of Lokrum Island.

All the food that we tasted was delicious and fresh. The seafood here is amazing!

The great thing about Croatia’s beaches is that the beach clubs are far more affordable than those on the Greek Islands.

However, you do trade soft white sand for stunning pebble shores and crystal-clear waters.

Then head to Split, where you can walk around the Diocletian’s Palace, and stroll along the Riva promenade.

If you are with friends and want to party at the beach take a ferry to the nearby island Hvar.

Finally, visit Plitvice Lakes National Park, where you’ll find cascading waterfalls and emerald-green lakes that feel like something out of a fairy tale.

This place was a huge surprise for me—I had no idea something like this even existed in Croatia!

It’s a bit remote, and we had to take a bus to get there, but they have lockers to store your luggage, making it convenient for travelers. If you rent a car it’s even easier.

It’s absolutely worth the journey. Trust me!

2. Greek Islands – Mykonos & Santorini

Budapest is divided by the Danube River into two distinct sides: Buda, known for its historic castles, scenic hills, and thermal baths, and Pest, the lively, flat side filled with fun nightlife including bars in ruins, cafés, and cultural landmarks.

But the real summer highlight? Sziget Festival, one of Europe’s biggest music festivals, is held every August on an island in the Danube River.

Apart from the artist there are so many art installations you can explore around the island.

Poland is often overlooked, but it’s one of Europe’s most historically rich and budget-friendly destinations.

After World War II, I honestly didn’t know what to expect.

To my surprise, they have rebuilt their cities into vibrant cultural hubs, filled with impressive museums, nice restaurants, and a deep sense of history.

One of the highlights of this city was buying Rose wine, and Danish pastries, and renting a boat to ride through the city’s canals.

This was a great way to view the modern buildings and see the city from another perspective.

If you’d rather sit back and enjoy the ride, you can take an official boat tour and learn the history behind each landmark.

We actually did both!
